Visit any toy store or the toy department at Walmart, Kmart or any other department store and you will see a bewildering array of toys and games for kids from simple balls to animated dolls for the little ones and on to the most sophisticated computerized creations that most adults have difficulty with.

Toy manufacturers and retailers heavily promote both currently popular and newly released toys prior to and during the Christmas season through television commercials, newspaper and magazine ads and other popular media outlets including the internet. Kids, by nature competitive and jealous of their possessions, consider these new and heavily advertised toys the ultimate must-haves to show off among their peers.

Longtime favorites on kids' Christmas wish lists include:

Tricycles and bicycles, windup and mechanical, push and pull toys, toy soldiers, trucks, cars and building blocks including Lego sets for the pre-school set. Traditional and talking dolls, baby dolls and accessories such as the new Barbie Dream Townhouse are a little girls dream.

Also always well received are teddy bears and other stuffed animals from plush to plastic, including the new dinosaur and other robotics, some of which are large enough to ride. Remote controlled robots, helicopters, boats, tanks and other vehicles are high on the wish list as well.

For older kids, the most wanted items you could consider toys are electronic or computer games of most any kind. A close second must-have for teenagers which are not toys but highly desirable are cellphones and the latest in designer clothing and footwear. Then of course there are air soft guns, gas scooters, dirt bikes and other 'rides' and accessories.
